THE JESUS PEOPLE MOVEMENT OF THE 1970's

THE JESUS MOVEMENT

The Jesus movement revolution was a movement in Christianity beginning on the West Coast of the United States with such churches as Calvary Church with Chuck Smith and Greg Laurie in the late 1960s and early 1970s and spreading primarily through North America and Europe, before dying out by the early 1980s.

It was the major Christian element within the hippie counterculture, or, conversely, the major hippie element within some strands of Protestantism.  Members of the movement were called Jesus people, or Jesus Freaks.  You're going to be a freak for something - it might as well be (& better be) Jesus!

  1. Hello are you there? I'm trying to find out who owns the rights to that image - Jesus Freak. Where did you get it?
