70's MEN'S FASHION

70's Men's Fashion: High-Waist Trousers, Bell Bottoms, Floral Print Shirts, Polka Dots - These were the "In" stuff of the time!   -  'WOW'

1970s men's fashion was characterized by several distinct fashion trends that have left an indelible image of the decade.  These include platform shoes which appeared on the fashion scene in 1971 and often had soles two to four inches thick.

These were worn by both men and women, who also often wore high platform sandals. Wide-legged, flared jeans and trousers were another fashion mainstay for both sexes throughout most of the decade.

We can see several of these mainstays in the picture above - Fuller hair with a longer cut over the ears, long-sleeve dress shirt with wide pointed collar, high-waist trousers with front crease and patch pockets.

Also the use of a wide leather belt with large square buckle, prints including stripes and plaid, bell-bottom trousers with flare and wide cuffs, and of course platform shoes.  These two guys have all that going on!

JESUS FREAK - I LOVE YOU JESUS!

In the late 60's and early 70's 'Love' and 'Peace' were cherished ideals.  Many turned to Christ for peace, and to the love of God for the answers to life: "God shall supply all your need - [singular because Christ is all you need] according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19)

Many are wondering what will happen tomorrow on May 21, 2011, when Harold Camping predicts that the Rapture will occur.  The Bible says no one knows - only the Father. "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only."  (Matthew 24:36)

Whatever happens tomorrow, in the end, you have to be sure of what is going to happen to you when you die. Put your trust in Jesus Christ.  He is the only way. "Jesus saith...I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)

What does that mean?  Well, trust in God's grace through Jesus Christ, read your Bible, and pray to Him in all sincerity of heart. "Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." (Acts 16:31)
In the meantime, be a 'freak' for the Lord and live your life for Him.  This is what the 'Jesus Freaks' were so enthusiastic about. "What doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" (Micah 6:8)

So why a 'Freak'?  The dictionary defines 'freak' as: "A thing or occurrence that is markedly unusual or irregular."  A true Christian is indeed 'different' from the world and its hostility toward the things of God.  (see John 17:14)

You are not only different, but special - and even chosen out of the world: "If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." (John 15:19)

We are His: God is the answer, not a date or a prediction.  Only the Lord can bring us to Redemption.  So, "Lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." (Luke 21:28)

Our Redemption is through grace alone, and not anything that we ourselves can do: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
~  Hallelujah~

HE'S BEEN EATING BIG MACs SINCE 1972!

Below is a magazine ad, for a Big Mac sandwich, from the early 70's.

Since 1972 Don Gorske, a retired prison guard, has eaten at least two Big Macs a day.  The 57-year-old, from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin will be eating his 25,000th Big Mac on the 39th anniversary of eating his first.

He jokes that 25,000 is a milestone because people didn’t think he’d live this long. But he says he recently saw a doctor who said he was in good health and his cholesterol is low.

My guess is that the happiness he gets from eating a Big Mac negates any possible adverse health effects!?  Gorske says he ate nine on May 17, 1972 (must have been 'love at first bite'!) and has only missed nine days since then, for various reasons.

Don Gorske even has his own paperback book (see ad below, and excerpt) filled with his experiences over the years of eating a Big Mac everyday, including fun trivia about all the places throughout the United States that he has eaten a Big Mac!

"Everything about eating Big Macs every day was perfect. .... I never had to cook. It was fast and ready within minutes after I left work every day. ...I never had a craving for something different. I had found my perfect food.... The stress of having to eat a non-McDonalds meal was over."  Don Gorske

The Famous Big Mac Jingle:  A 1974 advertising campaign featured a list of the ingredients in a Big Mac: "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun."

THE BUGALOOS! SATURDAY MORNING CHILDREN'S TV SERIES SHOW AIRED 1970 - 1972

FIRST EPISODE DATE: SEPTEMBER 12, 1970

"The Bugaloos, The Bugaloos, We're in the air and everywhere..."

The Bugaloos is an American children's television series produced by brothers Sid and Marty Krofft, airing on NBC on Saturday mornings from 1970 to 1972. The show featured a musical group composed of four British-accented teenagers, who lived in fictional Tranquility Forest.

They wore insect-themed outfits with antennae and wings which allowed them to fly, and were constantly pursued by the evil Benita Bizarre, who was jealous of the Bugaloos' musical talent. The Bugaloos released an album in 1970 featuring studio-recorded versions of some of the songs performed on the show.
