REDDY KILOWATT RED ELECTRICITY MAN STICK PIN FROM THE 60's & 70's and BEYOND

 Reddy Kilowatt Your Electric Servant

Reddy Kilowatt is a cartoon character that served as a corporate spokesman for the 'electricity generation' in the United States and other countries for over seven decades. 

This 'sparky' red character featured a lightbulb nose, red electric lightning bolt body, yellow gloves and pointy yellow 'safety' boots. 

He was a little bit elf-like too with those boots, as well as being a little demonic looking with the pointy red lightning bolt horns atop his head, with some warnings even being a little heavy-handed (see below).  

 

The trade in Reddy Kilowatt collectibles and memorabilia, from signs to trinkets, remains popular in antique marketplaces and online auction sites. 

Because of the volume of such material produced by RKI and its licensees, prices for most items are modest, although some rare and unique pieces can command large amounts.

 

One of the most iconic items at the time was a brass stick-pin of Reddy Kilowatt with a red enameled body and 'horns'.

 I recall a product similar to this with a round bottle and a spray top in Blue Jasmine. May have been the same company but not sure. 

In addition to Jasmine, it was also available in Tangerine, Rose Petal, Russian Musk, Cherry, Strawberry, Desert Rain, Patchouli, Herbal, Black Raspberry, Ambergris, Frangipani, Sandalwood, and Spruce as well as Lilac and more. 

 

The Nature Scents essential oils could be used as Body Oil, Perfume, Bath Oil, Scented Candles, Liquid Incense, or to scent Potpourri.  

The Olfactory Corp. was located at 2217 Pontius Ave. in Los Angeles CA 90064. The particular bottle pictured above says 'Copyright 1973'.

Hunt's Snack Pack is a pudding snack manufactured since 1977 by ConAgra Foods.

Snack Packs were initially introduced in 1968 in single-serve aluminum/metal cans, before switching to plastic cups in 1984 and clear plastic cups in 1990.

 

In the 60's the lid was metal with a pull-top ring and very sharp edges. Thankfully this was changed to a 'Child Safe Lid' in the 70's. 

In fact, on the packaging box from the 1960s, their horse mascot at the time warned, "Slowly now, keep your finger in the ring, and don't play with it or lick it or keep it in your hand." 

 

He also cautioned, "Open carefully. Don't handle lid or inner can rim." No such problem now, though, with a clear plastic container and a peel-off paper lid (that is safe to lick!).

Still available today in Chocolate Fudge and many other delicious flavors and natural ingredients, in both sweetened and sugar-free. Comes in 4-pack, 6-pack, 12-pack & 36 count.
