Does Your Child Really Need Braces?

It is estimated that in 90% of cases, the answer to this question is NO!
 
And - there is no rush!!  Take your time to really think about this important - and costly - decision.
 
In an article by Avery Hurt that appeared in Better Homes & Gardens magazine he tells us that:

Orthodontic work and braces can be an elective procedure more often than many parents realize.

According to the National Institutes of Health, most misaligned bites (malocclusions) are so minor that they do not require treatment.

Yet, currently, nearly 4 million children under the age of 18 in the U.S. and Canada are wearing some kind of braces.

Their parents are paying anywhere from $3,000 for a basic set to upwards of $10,000 for newer "invisible" braces.

One of the reasons for the rush into braces then may be the fact that this procedure is very lucrative.

It is NEVER too late to get braces if you happen to change your mind.
Many adults now wear braces, and with excellent results.

Children in their teens and pre-teens have not yet reached full growth and maturity.
Good nutrition can go a long way to ensure proper growth of the dental arch.

If you wait and give it time, the teeth will very often re-align themselves without wearing braces.

• Painfulness
